BALTIC RUSSIA: Glasgow
| Overview | |
Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, and is, in fact, the third most populated city in Great Britain. A famous cruise ship destination, Glasgow is home to the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth, as well as other famous liners. The city, which was once characterized by slums and over-population, has undergone a tremendous restoration, ridding the gorgeous land of the shanties and decrepit buildings that once inhabited the region. Now only grand edifices and beautifully constructed museums stand. The people are friendly and helpful to travelers, and the countryside is simply magnificent. The parks, lush green land, and golf sites are some of the best in the entire world. Glasgow is an ancient and magnificent city, with a rich heritage and prosperous future. The prosperity of the city, from a commercial point of view, began in the 17th century. This is much earlier than the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh. When the two cities are compared, Glasgow is actually the much older, much more esteemed location. As the city grew, and the expansion was rapid, Glasgow began to overtake all of the smaller medieval towns in the vicinity. Soon enough all of the area around the great River Clyde was known as Glasgow. It was only in 1996 that Glasgow finally gained its independence from the Strathclyde region of Scotland Glasgow had been controlled by outside government for centuries. Toward the end of the 20th century, the city became recognized as its own division. Therefore, Glasgow is no longer dependent upon the region of Strathclyde for assistance. The city is a marvelous location for honeymoons, families, or plain enjoyment. It is a treat to the senses, and the region is so green that you cannot help but be overwhelmed, loving every second of it. The golfing is tremendous in Glasgow, as are the world-class dining options. The sense of adventure in Scotland is complemented by the tranquility of the area, and this creates a glorious vacation for you to enjoy. |
