POLYNESIA, TAHITI &
SOUTH PACIFIC
: Tahaa

Overview

French Polynesia is a dreamland full of exquisite beach locations, wonderful scuba diving, and tasty eateries. In the heart of French Polynesia is the glorious island of Tahaa, a beautiful place with one of the most picturesque lagoons in the entire world. Snorkeling in the lagoon is a must for anyone traveling in the region. While the shopping and amenities on the island are quite limited, the excellent nature preserves, water sports, and restaurants more than make up for it. The dull moments certainly come few and far between, and the weather is pleasantly tropical, with extraordinary sunsets and marvelously crisp mornings. Tahaa's nickname is the Vanilla Island, because 80% of the vanilla in French Polynesia comes from this rich island nation. A tour of the Vanilla Farm is a fun and entertaining activity that should be enjoyed by all visitors to Tahaa. You can tour the Black Pearl Farms as well, which are equally spectacular.

Tahaa has a close-knit community of 1,500 who call the island home, and Tahaa is surrounded by lovely bays and rolling hills. Not many visitors have seen this fabulous destination, which is truly a shame. Fortunately, in the last few years, tourism in Tahaa has really picked up, and hopefully, positive word about the area's beauty will spread and tourism will continue to grow. Fishing is quite popular in Tahaa, and many of the locals are expert deep-sea fishermen. If you get lucky and strike up a conversation with the right person, you are likely to find yourself with an opportunity to fish off the sparkling shores of Tahaa. The people of Tahaa are very nature conscious, and they are intent on keeping their land pure and unmolested. For this reason, there are nature preserves and protected areas all over, and the sea turtle preservation is an outstanding example of their dedication. This beautiful, isolated land deserves a look, and it is a short ferry ride from Raitea, so if you are in the area, make sure to take a trip to this dazzling island.
